About
Hi, I’m Mike Stewart, a Ph.D. candidate at Texas A&M University–Kingsville and a retired U.S. Army officer. I study Gray Hawk ecology in South Texas, using a mix of fieldwork, demographic modeling, and spatial analysis to understand how these raptors use fragmented landscapes at the edge of their range.
Before this, I earned an M.S. in Biology from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Science from Oregon State University. When I’m not conducting research, I’m often in the field with a camera. Wildlife photography has been a long-standing passion of mine — especially birds and the wild places they inhabit.
I live in Alice, Texas, with my wife Yvette and our Green-cheeked Conure, Greenlee. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested in my research, photography, or potential collaborations.
